CUBAN SILK SCREENS     20 x 30 in / 50.8 x 76.2 cm     $200 each                 home

Silk Screening is a method of printing using a stencil that is layed over a woven mesh. The screen is placed over the intended surface of application, either paper or fabric. Normally using a squeegee, ink or pigment is then pushed or forced through the areas of the mesh that are not blocked by the stencil. When the squeegee is pulled along the length of the screen, the result is a sharply defined image. A separate stencil is made for each color if so desired.

Because this method can be so time consuming, silk screens are usually produced in small quantities and reserved for occasions such as films, exhibitions and other specialized purposes. A term for a silk screen used in a commercial application is serigraphy.
